A’dinging-dinging ri Bungung Barania in the Mataallo area, Bajeng District, Gowa Regency, is a tradition of self-purification and a ritual of determination for the warriors of the Bajeng Kingdom. This place is centered on an old sacred well (Bungung Barania) which was once used by ancestors and brave troops to bathe and ask for strength before going to war.

The origins and historical meaning of the words Bungung means well, and Barania means brave in Makassar language. This well is believed to be hundreds of years old and is a symbol of steadfastness and a source of courage for the Bajeng indigenous people.

The term a’dinging-dinging (cooling oneself) refers to the inner tradition or ritual of using well water to soothe the heart, clear the mind, and unite determination.

Important events in the history of the struggle for independence. On August 13, 1945, as many as 37 Anrong Tau (traditional leaders/community leaders) of Ri Bajeng carried out the A’dinging-dinging ritual of Ri Bungung Barania Mataallo. This ritual was carried out to strengthen the determination and unite the inner strength of the fighters to fight back against the Dutch colonialists who wanted to occupy Indonesia after independence. Until now, this location and tradition continues to be cared for by the Bajeng Royal Traditional Institution as a form of respect for historical values, local culture and the spirit of patriotism of the ancestors.

The A’dinging-dinging tradition in Bunbung Barania Mata Allo Limbung (Bajeng traditional area, Gowa Regency) is a sacred and historical ritual carried out by traditional leaders (Anrong Tau) to ask for safety, inner peace, and strengthen spiritual ties and determination to fight. public.

The historical context and important events of the consolidation of the struggle (1945), before Indonesian independence, precisely on August 13 1945, the Anrong Tau ri Bajeng had carried out the A’dinging-dinging ri Bunbung Barania ritual.

This ritual functions to purify themselves and strengthen the determination of the togetherness of the Bajeng indigenous people in Limbung to face the threat of the return of colonial troops.

The day after the ritual, namely on August 14 1945, the Red and White flag was hoisted at Balla Lompoa Limbung by local fighters as a form of anticipation of the proclamation of independence in Jakarta.

The philosophical meaning and value of spiritual purification (A’dinging-dinging). Literally it means to cool or calm (make cool) the heart, mind and area from danger or negative energy.
